QUEERING MASCULINITY, a trilogy.

Queering masculinity, a trilogy, consists in three autobiographical solo performances, which explores, interrogates and subverts notions of gender. Each performance has autobiographical material as a starting point. These performances can be seen independently. The three solo performances are:

This performance is the 1st of ‘QUEERING MASCULINITY trilogy. This performance is an autoethnographic solo  built under one single question, what is a [queer] macho?. The performance explores this question using as a trigger autobiographical material – the death of the author’s father. The performance should be experience as a question, as an inquisitive autobiographical gaze into the author’s masculinity, and the power of performance as a transformative process. This performance is a further development of “el macho performance”, research output of my PhD in theatre and performance.

Domingo 7

baby in the skyThis performance is the 2nd of ‘QUEERING MASCULINITY trilogy. In Latin-American culture, the biological function of fatherhood is one of the most important masculine gender performances. Therefore, men without offspring are regarded somehow as failed men. Domingo 7 explores the relationship between fatherhood and queer masculinity. In a way this performance, as the previous is built upon a question: who am I as an adult male without offspring? A lesser macho? An almost macho? A deficient macho? This performance explores the tension between queer macho and the biological function of fatherhood. This performance uses an abortion’s story as narrative material.

This performance is the 3rd of ‘QUEERING MASCULINITY trilogy. This performance aims to builds an imaginary universe for queer embodiments of [masculine] gender performances. This last performance is a queer-manifesto, a queer-fairytale a queer final punchin my attempt  to perhaps momentarily subvert toxic, ortodox performances of masculinity.
